Qari is a prayer times and Quran app. It is built so that the honest answer to "what do you collect about me" is nothing, and this page exists to say how that is arranged rather than to ask you to take it on trust.
Nothing. Qari has no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party tracking software of any kind. Nothing you do in the app is recorded anywhere we can read.
Qari asks for your location because prayer times are the position of the sun where you are standing, and the Qibla is a bearing from there to Makkah. Both are computed on your phone, by arithmetic in the app itself.
Your coordinates are stored on your device so the app can arm the adhan while it is closed and still be right if you open it without a signal. They are never sent to us and never sent to anyone else. If you decline the permission the app still works: it uses the last place you were, or the one you were shown at setup.
On the Qibla screen Qari reads the magnetometer to point the dial. That reading never leaves the phone.
The adhan is scheduled by your phone, from times your phone calculated. No server is involved and nothing is sent when a prayer arrives — which is also why the adhan works in a cave, on a plane, and with the network off.
Qari can also carry the occasional announcement from us — a new reciter, a correction to a calculation method. If that is switched on in a future release, your phone gives us a push token, and we would receive exactly four things: that token, whether you are on iOS or Android, which version of Qari you have, and your language, so the sentence arrives in a language you read. Not your name, not your location, not what you listen to. In this release the registry is not configured, so even that is not sent.
Recitations stream from everyayah.com, which is not run by us. When you play a verse your phone asks their server for that file, so they see the request the way any website sees a visitor. We do not receive it and cannot see it. Nothing is stored on your phone: this version of Qari does not download recitations.
Your settings, your calculation method, your reading and listening position, your bookmarks, and the last place Qari knew about. All of it is in the app’s own storage. Deleting Qari deletes all of it. There is no copy anywhere else, which also means there is nothing to restore — that is the trade we chose.
Qari collects nothing from anyone, which includes children.
If this ever stops being true, this page changes first and the app tells you.
